It’s A Record! Thanks To The 135 Contestants Who Made Our
$13,500 Midwinter Handicapping Contest A Great Success!

Bob Tomasini of Westfield, MA, took an afternoon off from work to play the races with his son, and the pair parlayed a $100 entry fee into the winner’s share of the $13,500 Hinsdale Park Midwinter Handicapping Showdown on February 19.

“We just came out to have fun, to watch the races and to get a good meal,” said the off-duty bar manager, whose son Cory accompanied him while on school vacation. “We hit one nice score early, but it was the last race of the day that really put us over the top.”

That well-placed wager with mythical contest money was good for $6,750 in actual cash, or fifty percent of the overall jackpot. The turnout was a Hinsdale Park record for the unique all-entry-fees-returned-as-prizes format.

Rounding out the top five were the team of Al and Art Upright (2^nd), John Hobson (3^rd), Tony Iacaboni (4^th) and Gino Loncrini (5^th).

The next edition of the tri-annual HGP Handicapping Showdown is tentatively scheduled for June.
