George of North Adams, MA, played patiently and pounced late in the afternoon to
nail a lucrative longshot winner, which was good enough to earn him first prize
in the June 17 tri-annual OTB handicapping contest at Hinsdale Greyhound Park &
OTB.
A
racehorse owner and trainer who regularly plays OTB at HGP, George’s first-place
victory was worth $7,400 in cash, half the total prize pool of $14,800.
Players
who bought into the $100 contest made ten mythical $200 win, place or show
wagers on their choice of Thoroughbred races from Belmont, Monmouth and
Churchill. At the end of the afternoon, the handicapper with the highest
bankroll based on pari-mutuel payoffs was deemed the winner. All entry fees
reverted to contest participants as cash prizes. The splits were: 1st (50%), 2nd
(25%), 3rd (12%), 4th (8%) and 5th (5%).
The next HGP handicapping showdown is tentatively scheduled for November. Entry
into the contest includes a several-course lunch in the clubhouse dining room,
complimentary programs and a Daily Racing Form. (Check back soon for
