But Benson won $4,000 and a chance at some good-natured marital retaliation
later in the day when he scored best out of 80 horseplayers, which was good for
half the $8,000 prize pool.
“This was awesome,” he said upon being handed his winnings in cash. Benson added
that since he played in partnership with his son, he would split the kitty
evenly, perhaps even tossing a few dollars into the purse of his skeptical
spouse.
The next edition of HGP’s Thoroughbred Handicapping Showdown is scheduled for
Thursday, November 18.
