Hinsdale History Hinsdale Greyhound Park (originally Hinsdale Raceway) was founded in 1958 as a seasonal harness horse racing facility. Members of the Sullivan family from Lowell, MA were early stockholders of the company. By the late 60's, harness racing had become very popular in the United States and the track enjoyed very good success during these years. Greyhound racing came to New Hampshire in the early 70's, Hinsdale became the first track in the country to have a heated track surface that made it possible to conduct racing during the cold New England winters. Since that time, many tracks in northern climates have installed similar systems. From 1972 to 1985, Hinsdale operated a harness horse meet each summer, and greyhound racing throughout the rest of the year. By the mid 80's, the economics of running a small seasonal harness meet had become impossible and 1985 was the final season of live horse racing at Hinsdale. Since 1985, Hinsdale has run live greyhound racing, 52 weeks per year. In the late 1980's, Joe Sullivan III created the company that presently owns and operates Hinsdale Greyhound Park. 1990 marked a major change in the history of our company. In that year, we began full-card simulcasts from other racing facilities. Now, in addition to our own live greyhound racing, we offer greyhound, harness, and thoroughbred racing from major tracks across the country. The picture and sound from each location is telecast live via satellite signal and shown on monitors located throughout the track. Presently, Hinsdale Greyhound Park presents live greyhound racing six cards per week and a full schedule of simulcasts seven days and evenings per week. We also operate two large restaurants in-house and accompanying grandstand concourse food and beverage concessions.
